Advice
What do I need to get started?
Just before your 17th birthday (3 months) you need to apply for your provisional licence or 16th for those with mobility issues (contact the DSA for details). You need to meet the minimum eyesight test of reading a number plate 20 metres away (with or without glasses).
What does it involve?
The qualifying process involves passing your Theory Test (which you can do whilst learning to drive) and a Hazard Perception Test. This is controlled by the DSA and is taken at a local test centre (Grove House in Swansea). When you reach the required driving standard you can sit your Practical Driving Test, in order to reach your Goal. We can HELP.
The Theory/Hazard Perception Test
The test is taken at a local centre and involves taking a theory test of 50 questions, which involves a selection of multi choice Highway Code questions and sign recognition (pass mark is 43 out of 50). Once this is complete you need to watch a series of short films that have recognisable hazards, there are 14 films in total each containing one hazard and one with two hazards (pass mark is 44 out of 75). Our experienced instructors can help with this process by using up to date teaching methods (Socratic teaching method).
The Practical Driving Test
This is taken at a local Driving Standards Agency (DSA) Test Centre and last for about 40 minutes and is conduct by a DSA Examiner. But with our help this need not be an ordeal as we will advise you when you are ready and have the necessary skills to pass with confidence. As part of the practical you will be asked by the examiner one show me and one tell me questions about the car. These questions are designed to assess
whether you have the ability to perform essential vehicle checks required for maintenance and safety. We will ensure that you have the necessary knowledge to be able to complete these tasks.
